Just 3 days short of Christmas, two Milwaukie residents were forced out of their home due to a quick moving fire. Alerted only by the smell of smoke in her two story home, located at 2835 SE Van Water in Milwaukie, a female occupant escaped with minor smoke inhalation.
Although firefighters from Clackamas Fire District contained and extinguished the blaze in 12 minutes, damage to the 1100 square foot residence made the home uninhabitable, with early estimates of $50,000.
Investigators from Clackamas Fire are sifting through debris to determine the origin and cause of this holiday tragedy, and will be available early next week.
Smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a house fire in half, and are the single most important factor that a home owner can do for his family. If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet, and really care about a special someone in your life, consider putting a new smoke alarm under the tree for them this year.
