Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday night's two-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 99E south of Woodburn that resulted in the death of an adult male and injuries to three other people.
According to Sergeant Craig Ball, on December 21, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Honda Accord driven by a 21-year old Newberg-area Hispanic male was northbound on Highway 99E near milepost 34 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Jeep Liberty driven by ALMA BERBER, age not available, from Woodburn.
The Honda's driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is withheld pending confirmation of immediate family members' notification.
Two passengers in the Honda were seriously injured. They are identified as CORNELIO FRANCISCO MARTINEZ, age 21, and VICTOR ROJAS-MARCELINO, age unknown. MARTINEZ was transported by Life Flight to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). ROJAS-MERCELINO was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital and then transferred to OHSU. Both men are also from Newberg.
BERBER was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with minor injuries.
OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash. Trooper Mike Lacer is the lead investigator.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Gervais Police Department, Woodburn Fire Department, and ODOT. The highway was closed over 4 hours.
