Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Monday afternoon's fatal traffic crash involving a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 84 about four miles west of Ontario. The crash resulted in the death of an adult female and serious injury to her husband who was a passenger in the vehicle. Both names will be released after additional next of kin notifications are done.

According to Trooper Ryan Mills, on May 9, 2011 at approximately 12:32 p.m. a 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by the 62-year old female victim was eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 370. As the vehicle drifted off the left edge of the freeway, the operator steered to the right and returned to the left eastbound lane but then lost control. The vehicle rolled over a guardrail, into the center median divider where it came to rest in the center median on its three remaining wheels.

The female operator was fully ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 62-year old front male passenger was partially ejected. He was transported by LifeFlight air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. The westbound lanes of Interstate 84 were briefly closed during LifeFlight response.

OSP troopers from the Ontario Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Evidence at the scene indicates neither person was using safety restraints.

Ontario Fire & Rescue, Treasure Valley Paramedics and ODOT assisted at the scene.
