RED CROSS PROVIDES 24-HOUR SUPPORT TO MISSION OF MERCY DENTAL CLINIC
Posted: November 19th, 2010 12:53 PM

While Oregonians wait in line to receive needed dental services, the American Red Cross will be on hand around the clock to provide hot beverages, snacks and preparedness information.

The Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross is partnering with the Oregon Dental Association (ODA) for this weekend's Mission of Mercy clinic at the Oregon Convention Center. While the clinic will be open from 6 am on Monday, Nov. 22 through noon on Tuesday, Nov. 23, the ODA expects that clients will line up for services as early as Sunday afternoon. In anticipation, the Red Cross will operate a mobile kitchen (located on NE MLK Blvd.) starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21 and will serve snacks and hot beverages around the clock until noon on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

In addition to canteen services, the Red Cross will be providing preparedness information to those waiting in line, including how to build a disaster kit, make a plan and ensure a home is fire safe.

Media are welcome to watch Red Cross workers in action early in the morning, late at night and any time in-between. For more information, please contact Lise Harwin, Communications Director, at 503-969-7474.

In Oregon, the American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disaster every 20 hours; supplies more than 90 percent of Oregon's blood; teaches thousands of Oregonians lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
